JOSH INNES WEDGE WITH HOUSTON - LM

JOSH INNES AND HOUSTON FAN
Written by:LM

As soon as you think Josh has figured it out, he reverts back to his old tactics. Monday's show was an example of antagonizing to the the nth degree.  Craig Shelton and I are cool with Josh but he even frustrated us.  I like the fact Josh is not afraid to speak his mind and typically go against the grain however sometimes it's flat out worthless.

I understand this is entertainment and there's a level of BS in all "on air personalities' arsenal" but Josh and this Houston vs Louisiana, LSU, Saints, and Cardinals is becoming ridiculous  Josh  reminds me of Titans and Dallas fans or any "out of market" team permeating the airwaves about shit Houston don't care about.

THE SHOW

I ask myself, why Josh continuously revisits Wade Phillips landed in Kubiak's hand.  For what it's worth, I agree with him, Wade landing with Houston was a blessing and thanks be to Dallas for quitting on him but what does that have to do with anything?  How many teams in the NFL can we say a phenomenal player or coach landed in someones hands thereby making them good.
  • Peyton Manning landed in the Colts Hand
  • Tom Brady landed in the Patriots Hand
  • Arian Foster landed in the Texans Hand
  • Drew Brees landed in the Saints Hand
  • Don Capers landed in the Packers Hand
  • Mike Tomlin landed in the Steelers Hand
  • Bret Favre landed in Childless Vikings Hand (good year)
  • Victor Cruz landed in Giants Hand
You see where I am going with this?  Damn, every team lucks out and we can play this "Land in Hand" game over and over but it seems to be a major point of concern with Wade Phillips to the Texans.  Who cares, he's here and doing a good job?  It's an argument not warranted as long as Wade Phillips is the active Defensive Coordinator.  When the Texans are in a position to hire another DC, then this argument may be valid but not now.

Mediocrity

This didn't get as much attention on the show but for a segment in the earlier portions of the show, Josh kept throwing out the Texans record (Kubiak era) and how it's mediocre.  I think the number was like 39-43.  And? What's the point?  Does Kubiak's overall record represent what you saw in 2011?  How would I look going to New Orleans and saying, "Since your inception, you are 299-386"?  What will that stat have to do with the Saints kicking ass in the last 6 years?  In all fairness Josh, threw out the Texans record since the Kubiak/Rick regime because the topic was about Rick and Gary possibly getting a new contract.

Carlos Beltran Booing

This wouldn't have even been an article until Josh brought up Beltran.  Carlos plays for the Cardinals, the Astros played the Cardinals this weekend, Astros Fan boo'd Carlos.  Josh said he don't dig booing a player however he dedicated significant time talking about how the fans boo'd Beltran and he pretty much didn't like it.  In addition to the fans being salty on Beltran when the Astros basically acquired Beltran from the Royals similar to the way The Mets got him from the Astros.

This is a case of Josh not knowing the dynamics of the Carlos Beltran situation and of course Carlos being a member of his team.  In 140 characters (Twitter), I tried to explain to Josh that this was Houston's version of Lebron James "decision" before the "decision" but maybe that wasn't the best example.  I am sure if he speak with a few local personalities around at the time of Beltran and get the low down on what transpired, he may understand.

What bothered me about the Carlos Beltran topic is the fact he previously mocked Albert Pujols (former Cardinal) slump in California however he qualifies it because Albert was "brought up" through the Cardinals and Beltran was a rental.  I asked about LSU fans booing Nick Saban on his return to Death Valley, he replied via twitter, he was happy for Saban but notice how it becomes about him and not the fans as he did with the Astro fans. Still waiting on an answer about LSU fans and Nick Saban.

The whole debate is meaningless when Josh stated in the beginning he is not a fan of booing, so why make it about Astros fans.  Totally different J&R Show if he's calling "boo birds" idiots.

WRAP IT UP

I think Josh has made strides in this market but his way of driving a wedge between himself and Houston fans is getting hold.  Who in the hell cares about the Wade Phillips Hire, Kubiak's Record or drunk fans booing a player, that's not radio that's reaching to be different or wild.  It's to the point, I think we are about to tell him "take your ass back to Louisiana or Missouri" because this I love Houston and then taking every chance to clown the teams when it's not necessary or poke fun of our "perceived" southern drawl is for the birds.

Josh is not alone when it comes to making fun of the way Houstonians/Texans speak, it's pretty much all of the younger talent at 610.  Every time I hear them trying to imitate the way we speak, it reminds of the horrible job of the movie Jason's Lyric.  I think Jason Lyric did a better job imitating Houston than what I hear on 610.

I am not asking Josh to come on air and kiss Houston's ass but there is a pattern developing with Josh's teams vs Houston and Houston is always the dumb asses in some capacity.

Even something I agreed with Josh on, the Rueben Randle pick, I was pissed and barked but after the draft was over and I got a chance to see everything, I let it go.  I 've been holding this in but Baton Rouge is about a good 30 to an hour drive from New Orleans, if the Saints just lost one of their receivers, why they didn't draft Rueben and why Josh didn't beat them up?  I only brought of Rueben because Josh went bisserk the Monday after the draft for nearly the duration of J&R.

Craig and I were listening to Josh and I asked Craig "Dawg what if everyone called and agreed with Josh" then what?  What's the point of constantly putting yourself in an anti Houston position?

With that said, Josh is not a punk and unlike some he will address a debate.

Cool with Dylan? I thought y'all was independent and not like these other dickriders. Wrong dude to be cool with. Dropping on that credibility scale homey

TP, thanks for the read and you are 100% correct on Rueben, good catch. However, saints could have moved up to get him via trade if he's all that

Agree with TP. Can't tune into 610 anymore because its just too predictable and annoying to hear. I'm a Louisiana guy, and I know that Baton Rouge isn't all what Josh makes it out to be. I think he just likes to be hated, like its cool or something. Time for him to either move on or find a different angle.

Saints being out two picks already there's no way they deal with a team who wants more of their picks. Future picks included. Saints weren't in any Kim of position to give away more picks this year or next....unless it was for a Franchise player. Bottom line is, the Saints don't need Randle. They'll hurt this year due to the things going on but they still have business to take care of for next year....like signing Drew Breez. They would have dug a deeper hole giving away picks for a guy who, in my opinion, isn't worth it.

Good read. Bottom line, Josh is Josh. 610 is 610. Somethings you can't change. Sometimes its better to ignore ignorance than entertain it. And that's all 610 has turned out to be when airing "local sports talk"....ignorant. How many cats on air at that station are from Houston? I'll give you 90 year old Barry Warner. That station could fall off the radio and I doubt sports fans with real sports knowledge would care. And as far as Josh debating man to man.....don't let his outspoken ways fool you. Thanks again for a good read.

Good read. Personally, I think Josh is a complete idiot and a buffoon. He is like a disease that won't go away. In fact, all the new young guys on 610 suck in my opinion. Their lack of knowledge and intelligence is appalling. I never tune in to j&r anymore. In fact, I rarely tune in 610 anymore. Maybe a little on weekends and it reminds me why I don't listen during the week anymore. It is awful.

LM, I like HMW but you know what Josh is doing and it worked. Josh Innes is the best and the most popular host in Houston currently. I know it's not cool to publicly say you like Josh but the dude has verbally crushed every big name in this market. What he did to Lance on Twitter, Richard Justice, coworkers and freaking Bob Allen. He's relentless and I love that about him. as a matter of fact when he's taking shots at these institutionalized relics, I like him more. Josh is my boy and we need him in Houston. The only thing I don't like is the gay innuendos. Good read, keep writing. Can't wait to meet hmw at Fan Fest.

Josh is an infantile, moronic idiot. Yolu have to lower your IQ to about 50 to be able to listen to him. He usually shows his rear end whenever he opens his mouth. Being stupid doesn't make you good.
