The Rockets lost two heartbreaking games this week, as we head into the home stretch before the playoffs.

The Hawks game was crushing, since they had a lead at halftime then faltered in the second half. Although James Harden was suspended for the game (which shouldn’t have happened had the refs got control of the Cavaliers game), losing a game on the road without your potential league MVP after leading at the half, and into the fourth quarter, still hurts.

The Grizzlies loss was especially bad since a blown call by the refs, acknowledged by the league later, cost the Rockets a key win.
The Hawks game proved they can hang with the best team in the league on the road, and also proved that the bench and role players are capable of stepping up.

The Grizzlies loss proved they can beat a team ahead of them in the playoff race, provided they don’t leave it to the refs.
Moving forward, I believe this team is capable of advancing to the Western Conference Finals, and giving whomever they meet a good run, if not advancing to NBA FinalsThe main reason is because of how the role players and bench step up when they’ve been asked to this season.

Dwight Howard has been out quite a bit, but look at how Donatas Motiejunas, Terrence Jones, and others have helped fill that void. I can’t say enough about the bench and role players, especially Corey Brewer and Josh Smith, who’ve come in during the mid-season and immediately produced.

This team will be able to compete with anyone, as long as they stay away from the turnovers, three’s keep falling, and guys keep stepping up.
