If you from the State of Texas, there are three things in your DNA
- Guns
- Death Penalty
- Football
It's common in Houston and the State of Texas to hear, "Football is king". For what it's worth, I think Football is King throughout America but in Texas, we take that shit to heart.
As the 2018 NFL Draft approached, I was surprised that there was hardly any buzz. Granted, the Texans did not have a first or second round pick so the excuse is "built in" but we are talking about a city that goes balls out for 2-14 teams and sell out every game.
Last week, I didn't even realize it was Texans OTAs. Why is this significant? There was a time in Houston when Texans OTAs dominated the airwaves. OTAs was covered damn near like training camp.
I believe Houston is finally a three sports town in terms of radio. We can now talk about three teams in their appropriate seasons. Over the last decade it was Texans year around, Rockets here and there and Astros almost none until the last couple of years.
Another part of me wonders if the drop off in Texans chatter has something to do with Patrick Starr. Pat, bleeds any and everything Texans. Pat made the Texans a daily conversation on Twitter which forced the media to talk about them because fans would charge them up over shit they were seeing on Twitter. We have always joked about Pat being the unofficial Texans Beat Writer but it's proven now with Pat's limitation who really covers the Texans.
For what it's worth, I think it's both. All three teams are interesting in their own respects and Pat's absence is also playing a part in the lack of Texans chatter we're accustomed to.
