Lance Zierlein on Sports Radio 610's "Formula Radio"

Written By: LM

This morning on the Bench, Lance Zierlein and John Granato were having a discussion and out of nowhere, Lance spoke about Sports Radio 610.

Lance pretty much hit on the fact how they are Texans "everything".  Quickly I tweeted he and John "I told you".  It was like I was telling them something new while forgetting, these guys birthed Sports Radio 610 and they already know what the business is.

In other words, I don't think John and Lance need me to tell them, 610 is programmed to the Texans but this morning, I really felt as if Lance may have not really heard 610 in a while.  From the way he was speaking, he hadn'te.

Sports Radio 610 is all Texans. Every hour in weekday planning, they will have at least 2 segments of Texans talk.  This would be cool from August-January but we are talking March-July.  It would also be cool if they could bring interesting Texans topics but its the same ole dribble.

I thought it was really cool for Lance to speak on what he heard and he qualified that he was not going at them.  We all know Lance could have went in but he didn't.  That being said, 790 is no different, you are going to hear tons of  Rockets and Astros talk typically from a fanboy perspective.  They are slaves to professional teams.

Nick Wright does not have hair plugs

Written by: LM

I really thought this guy was out of my existence but over the last week, his hair has became a topic.  Apparently, Nick Wright is growing out his air.

The local and national media has been all over it.  Nick use to rock a bald fade and suddenly to see him with hair is a shock to the system for some white people.

This whole story of Nick Wright's hair further explains that most of the media are out of the loop.

Nick is a white young male who think he's black, When the dude was in Houston he would hold up his black wife as a trophy while telling Houston where she worked while she was pregnant.  His whole MO was proving how black he was and how white you are.

Nick use to wear bald fade, that's what we normally seen him rocking.

Sometimes we just called it a low cut.   Nick is not losing his hair or has a receding hairline or any of that.   He was rocking a style blacks normally wore.

NEW HAIR NICK

If i had to bet money, Nick is growing out his hair for Dred Locks or an Afro.  This dude will do whatever it takes to appear black.  He probably has on some Jordans right now and if he wasn't on TV, he would probably have THUG LIFE tatted on him.

Bottom line, the dude does not have hair plugs or a hair piece.  Fuck around and by Thanksgiving, Nick will have a flat top.

Changes on The Blitz and ESPN 97.5, AJ Hoffman Project Director

Written by:  LM

Week before last, Jong was on vacation the whole week.  I remember thinking it was strange because everyone just returned Christmas and New Year's vacation.  That Tuesday, I begin asking around and everyone said it was just a vacation.

Friday evening, January 8, Jong tweeted the following.  Twitter went into a frenzy.

Jong has been with the Blitz since it's inception and the Blitz is kicking ass in ratings.  So it's odd, he would up and blaze out.  Again, I reached out and I was told by someone Jong is not on-board with some changes that were are about to be made.

Since Jong dropped the news on Friday night, Fred Faour and AJ Hoffman couldn't discuss the issue until Monday.   Monday Fred and AJ discussed Jong's departure. To be honest, their segment on Jongwas vague.  The only interesting part, AJ mentioned how people are speculating that Jong left him out of farewell tweet which kind of make people think their was something between the two.   At the time, I didn't think so because AJ said gracious things about Jong on air.  In addition to, Jong and AJ were playing with each other on Twitter #Transition. Audio is below

The Blitz

AJ THE PRODUCER

Friday, the AJ and Fred officially named Jong's replacement as producer and teased another major decision for 6:30.

WTF
After their hit with RJ Bell, Fred and AJ revealed that AJ Hoffman is the new program director.  Audio Below

AJ the PD

THOUGHTS

First thing first, I have no dog in this at all.  I cut for Jong and AJ.  It's just odd, after Dave Tepper left, I thought Jong was promoted to Assistant PD in addition to his producing duties.  Jong was actually in management.

This may come off as harsh towards AJ but it's not, if what he portrays about his personality on radio is actually true in real life, I just don't  see it.  AJ is the opposite of what management is.  AJ is not a people's person. Dude complains about everything.   I am also not sure how AJ worked for it as the it was said in the audio.  Was AJ making moves behind the scenes that were not public?  I am not saying, grouchy people cannot be in management, hell Fred is grouch.  I'm a damn grouch at times but AJ comes off as an anti-social person.

Hindsight, it always felt like it was something there with AJ and management.  Jokingly he would notate the fact that he's not in management and not included in some of things Jong and Fred were.  You can even go pull a couple of segments with David Gow, where he made comments about management.   All in all, I hope AJ succeeds as PD.

As stated earlier, I like both guys but I have to give Jong a Bravo Zulu for not immediately adding flames.  I asked him "what's the deal" and he constantly said, he didn't want to spread anything and it will eventually come out.  In other words, without Jong telling the public what happened, everything else is pure speculation.

Why did Jong leave ESPN 97.5

Written by: LM

As we all know, The Producer for the Blitz (Jong) is no longer an employee for ESPN 97.5.
According to a source, "there's going to be changes at the stations and Jong did not agree with them"  therefore he resigned...

I am sure this will be discussed in detail however I am now more interested in the "change".

Local Radio Stories of The Year

Written By: LM

It has been an interesting year for local radio programming.  I wanted to look back at some major events in 2018.

In addition to radio, I am including a few wildcards.

Josh Innes vs Seth Payne - Super Bowl Radio Row Fight

It was long over due and most knew it would eventually happen.  Josh had been taking shots of MAD Radio for a while and when Seth had his chance to confront Josh publicly, he pounced.  The fight made national news and cause a tidal wave on the local landscape.

From that event

- Mad Radio never won a book again
- Josh and Jayson Braddock nearly fought
- Mike Meltser invoked a person's name (Gavin Spittle) who was not involved in the beef

Super Bowl Fight

Mike Meltser On-Air collapse

Houston Astros newly acquired closer Roberto Osuna sent the City of Houston into a tailspin.  Upon learning the Astros acquired Osuna, the City of Houston were at odds but it came to head On MAD Radio when Seth Payne and Mike Meltser were discussing. They disagreed and Mike went on a tirade of Unbearables in the High Pitch Voice Mode.

It made National News and what's odd, many did not discuss what they were at odds about.  Of course Sports Radio used and continues to use the on-air skirmish but if you listen closely, Mike expresses that this was not a one time occurrence with Seth and it's hard working with him.

Mike Meltser's Unbearable Breakdown

Patrick Starr's Absence

Earlier in the year, Pat (State of the Texans) went Missing In Action.  For a couple of weeks, Twitter was worried about Pat because we never seen Pat go missing as we approached the off-season.  Later we learned, Pat was involved a tragic accident.  I don't want to go into specifics but the outpouring of love Pat received via charity and donations, made me feel good.

Not only did Patrick's fans show him love but a lot in the Media and the Texans Organization.

He was missed big time and we are happy to have him back.

The Blitz Ratings Run

Fred Faour and AJ Hoffman went on a ratings run out of no where.  It's little I can add because I talked about it for a solid year.
