PART 1."THE MUSIC"

STEVIE WONDER
R&B legend, Stevie Wonder, said in one of his brilliant songs: "there's something about you're love, that makes me weak, and knocks me off my feet".

American rock group R.E.M., told us that: "life is bigger than you and you, so why not me", in their classic, "Losing My Religion".

PUBLIC ENEMY
Legendary hip hop group, Public Enemy, amazed us when front man Chuck D spouted out: "I got a letter from the government, the other day, I opened it and read it, and said they were suckers"!

The late great 2 Pac Shakur made every guy who grew up without his dad and looking out for his t-lady (aka mother for the hip-hop-lingo-challenged) get seriously heavy eyes when he gave us the hip hop ballad "Dear Mama".

The Artist aka Prince, shocked us with three simple words in the 80s when he uttered the now infamous lyrics: "Do Me Baby".

I don't know about you folks, but I have been mesmerized by the penmanship of music's greatest writers for as long as I could articulate the English language.

It should be noted that, I was raised as a God-fearing Christian man who unlike my dear friend & HMW teammate, Mike in DA, actually believes in God. Lol. Mike often jokes that, he "relies on God, more so than he, believes in God" (lol Mike is a deep katt).

Nevertheless, I make this point mainly because as a young Christian kid growing up in the south side hoods of H-Town, admittedly, I may have lived more by the lyrics of my favorite artist, more so than the words in black & red print in the world's number one best seller. By the way, shouldn't The Bible be free? You know, kinda like the Green Sheet? Shouldn't you be able to just walk into the Valero's and just grab the good book with your coffee on the way out the door? Lol...just a thought!

ALICE IN CHAINS

THE HIGHS & LOWS!

FRANKIE BEVERLY & MAZE
Music has given me the best of both worlds. Music has motivated my deepest emotions and ambitions. Music has invigorated my creativeness as a producer and writer. Hell folks, music even affects my driving habits, that's real talk. For example: when I'm on the highways around H-Town pushing my wide-body up Hwy 288 or the 610 S. Loop, and I'm driving along listening to some Frankie Beverly and Maze "Southern Girl" or Alice In Chains' "Here Comes The Rooster", I tend to drive below the speed limit. LOL.

But if I'm driving along listening to that new Bun B joint featuring Young Jeezy or some classic Metallica like "Puppet Master", my ass is headed for a municipal court appearance for driving more than 10 miles over the speed limit! I listen to music when I'm working and if no one is watching I even listen to music when I'm praying.

BUN B AKA THA TRILL OG

METALLICA
YOUNG JEEZY
MARVIN GAYE "LET'S GET IT ON"
I LOVE MUSIC!!! I love people as well and one thing I love about music is the transcending effectiveness it has on us. Music brings different cultures and social groups into the same arena for concerts and other events, that do not normally mesh. I believe that if not for the music that has been the silent backdrop or soundtrack of my life, I may have turned out to be some loser radio caller turned blogger? Oh, wait...
GEORGE CLINTON &
BOOTSY COLLINS

                      MAKING BABIES?

Do you recall where you were and what you were doing the first time you heard George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic's "Flashlight"? How about Led Zeppelin's "Stairway To Heaven" or Marvin Gaye's "Let's Get It On"? I remember what I was doing the first time I heard many of my favorites, but I can't remember where the hell my paycheck went last week!

CRAIG'S DAUGHTER TAMAR
Okay, we all have an artist and their music we love to blame for the babies we made, right? For instance, you can credit Prince and his ballad "International Lover" for my oldest daughter Tamar's conception. Tamar is a student at Lamar University and she's an angel of a daughter.

CRAIG'S SON WILLIAM
On the total other end of the spectrum, there is my youngest son, my 15-year-old William (Willie). My ex-wife and I must have conceived Willie to N.W.A.'s, "F*ck The Police" or Quiet Riot's "Bang Yo Head"!

Music has a place in all our lives, even if you're Brad in Spring Branch or Josh Innes of Sports Radio 610 (M-F 10a-11a) and you've never had sex. Hey, Mick Jagger and The Stones have you two guys covered with "Satisfaction"! Lol..Just kidding fellas....(Fingers Crossed)

GO TEXANS & "JUST WIN BABY"!

I have a great musical theme for the Texans this season! I'm praying for the Texans to have a season worthy of the DJ Khaled smash hit "All I Do Is Win"! The hook in the DJ Khaled track reads "All I do is win, win, win, no matter what"! Well, if the Texans intend to live up to those expectations, they will need what UGK told us they had in a "Pocket Full Of Stones". If that doesn't do it, maybe the Texans can go with Jackson 5's "Got To Be There", cause that what the Texans' fan are thinking regarding the playoffs!

FREDDIE MERCURY
MUSIC IS LIFE!

Let's be totally honest people, music is air; music is water; music is the earth, the sun, and the wind. Music is the subconscious mood template for the soul that's in control of you and your world. Music is our hero and the source of our fears.

I can remember vividly the power I felt the first time I heard Queen's "We Will Rock You". I can also remember the immense fear I felt after seeing Freddie Mercury on stage singing "We Will Rock You" as I realized Freddie literally intended to "Rock You". Yuckie!!!

I can remember being afraid to go in a public men's lavatory for years after seeing The Village People do "YMCA" on MTV back in the day.

Hell, I really thought R. Kelly could fly; I believed "911 Is A Joke"; I know "We Are The World"; and if I ever catch up with Sheryl Swoopes, definitely, "I Wanna Rock With You"!

MY BABY SHERYL SWOOPES
SHERYL SWOOPES
THE FINAL TAKE:

What I've learned most of all about music is that, it belongs to no one entity. Music is in the nature of Mother Earth and belongs to us all. No one segment of society is entitled to a particular style of music than any other. That's no matter what fraction of American culture that cultivated the format. Rapper Eminem is one of hip hop's all-time greats and is a white kid from 8 Mile in Detroit. Jimmy Hendrix, Lenny Kravitz, and 80s rockers In Living Color, are all blacks that killed it when they represented their rock & roll ambitions!

The best thing we can all take comfort in knowing is that, if my boys Brad In Spring Branch and Josh Innes don't find dates and have sex soon, they can always "Be It"! Heee heee!

To be continued; next is Part 2. "The Money".

My bad for another post. But this is the reason you have the site right? I like taking the few minutes a day to read and see what is on the minds of the powers that be. One thing stood out to me that I just wanted to big up. The Mike in DA qoute of his reliance on God over his belief in God. Joking or not, that is a genious perspective...... My bad again, one last thing. You could have mixed in a picture of a reggae artist. I'm just sayin!
