NOW THIS IS WHAT THE FANS WANT TO HEAR!

(MAX EDISON FROM HOUSTON DEFENDER)
There are very few times in my professional fan career where I heard a local media person speak as a “fan” on SR610 but that was about to change on the 4th of July. Max Edison of the Defender joined N.D. Kalu and Kyle Kennedy to chop it up before he partakes in holiday festivities and dude brought down the house. I thought I was at church about to start doing the “funky chicken”.
KEEPING IT REAL
Over the years the phrase “keeping it real” has taken on various meanings depending on what circles you are associated with. In the local sport’s arena, I must say “Max Edison kept it real”. All so often local sports commentary is equated to the likes of John McClain, Richard Justice, Jerome Solomon in addition to the radio personalities and these guys become almost “as a matter of fact” they say or write team friendly material. All of those guys do their jobs well but man does it feel good to hear a media professional talk as if you debating with him in person.
N.D. Kalu welcomed Max and he lightened it up with some humor and immediately jumped into the BIG LOCAL 3 (Astros, Rockets, and Texans). Radio broadcasting cardinal rule; never try to conduct an interview with a human male on a holiday when barbecue and drinks are ready to be consumed.
Max started by saying all of this talk of no blacks in baseball is a falsehood because most of them come right out of North East Houston. Of course he was joking but there is a certain truth in the regional aspects of his comment. I never realized Carl Crawford, Michael Bourne and Jason Bourgouse all came from the North Side of Houston. N.D. asked him his take on the Astros trading Oswalt and he felt the Astros should make the trade with the Rangers and he really feel Roy would fit in good with Nolan Ryan. Kyle asked him about Jason's future and he felt as if Jason was in an unfortunate situation because he’s the fourth outfielder and he can only serve for defensive purposes behind Carlos Lee however he feels as if it would be a good PR move for the Astros to keep him because he’s a local kid. ROCKETS AND FREE AGENCY
N.D. asked about NBA Free Agency and Max Edison spoke the gospel truth. He is sick and tired of all of this “free agency” talk about a bunch of guys that have not won anything. Now that’s what I am talking about. As I look back and think about the greats: Bird, Magic, Jordan, Hakeem, Kobe, Duncan; these guys didn’t manaveur to place themselves in a perfect situation to win a ring. All of those guys made their current situations work for the better and the only ones I can think of that moved around to chase a ring Drexler, Barkley and Shaq. Max drops a phrase on the Sunday Crew about Lebron James “Too Much Too Soon”. He feels that everyone is running around kissing Lebron’s ass and he has not won anything. Daryl Morey is doing the right thing and if Chris Bosch is smart he would come to Houston. Jokingly he says instead of Chris trying to follow Lebron and become his caddy, he could come to Houston and Morey would get him a caddy. The one thing Max said I hate to hear is what everyone in Houston has grown accustomed to saying in the last five years “assuming if Yao stays healthy” then we could contend with the Lakers. Everything these days are predicated on assumptions of Yao’s health. If you would like to hear Max Edison talk Free Agency and Rockets in it’s entirety Click Below.
