COOL ATHLETE NAME:

CHARGER TV BLACK OUTS MAY NOT BE FAN-FRIENDLY, BUT THEY'VE BEEN GAMBLER-FRIENDLY SO FAR!

In last week’s gambling tip, it was mentioned here that the San Diego Chargers were undefeated (2-0 SU and 2-0 ATS) at the time in home games that were blacked-out on local TV.

They were blacked out again this past Sunday when the Tennessee Titans visited Qualcomm Stadium. The Chargers improved to 3-0 in blacked-out games with a 33-25 win and are now 3-0 SU and 3-0 ATS when blacked-out, as well as 3-0 in Over wagers.

"CALLER OF THE MONTH" – OCTOBER

The Peanut GalleryCaller of the Month” for October is the legendary loudmouth, "Larry from Stafford", who has branched out from hollering on SR610 to Sports Talk 790 and 1560 KGOW now to get his point across. With such passionate fans like Larry, the Houston Texans will never have to worry about being blacked-out locally on TV like the San Diego Chargers and some other teams have this season. "And I'll holler."

FROM THE HMW MAILBAG:

Thomas left some comments after reading Lamont Mann’s post of 11/2, "WHEN MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL GOES WRONG": (http://sheltonmedia.blogspot.com/2010/11/when-monday-night-football-goes-wrong.html:

"I wanted to toss my computer out of the window listening to Kubiak's presser. He did a good job side stepping questions about the lack of running. He avoided the question completely when John Granato called him out on his plan to be "balanced" when he said Kubiak is 26-8 pass on first drives.

His BFF, John McClain, sensed Kubiak was in trouble so "The General" took over and spent most of the time asking one softball question after another.

I can't even make any sense on how Kubiak spent two weeks coming up with that game plan. It was like he never played the Colts before. He needs to go, the Texans will never be a legit contender with him leading this team.” END

LINGERIE FOOTBALL LEAGUE'S "DEFENSIVE LINEWOMAN OF THE WEEK": JULIE 'JEWELS' GALINDO

JENN STERGER'S SHOW CANCELLED, SO HERE'S A CHANCE AT SOME MORE GRATUITOUS NUDITY FOR HMW READERS!

Jenn Sterger, the “alleged” recipient of Brett Favre's junk mail, has lost her four-nights-a-week show on the VERSUS network. That means her price for not cooperating with the NFL's investigation just went up dramatically. Sorry, Brett, but silence is costly, no matter how small the offense.

Jenn’s show “The Daily Line” had in the words of VERSUS, "anemic ratings" The show featured Ms. Sterger, among other more qualified sports reporters such as household names like Liam McHugh and Rob DeAngelis, as well as comedian Reese Waters. The VERSUS website describes the show as "VERSUS' first ever live nightly show, takes the old sports show formula of hosts in suits sitting behind a desk and kicks it to the curb."

I wonder if this action on the part of VERSUS has more to do with the negative press that Sterger has generated in recent weeks as a result of the Brett Favre scandal. It is quite possible that VERSUS has been receiving some negative responses from its viewers over having someone who is surrounded in controversy as an on-air personality.

"The Daily Line" started on the air in early April 2010. A Deadspin.com "source" dismissed the possibility that Sterger's firing and the show cancellation had anything to do with the scandal, yet it did quote someone on the inside as saying, "According to multiple sources inside the Comcast/Versus cubby hole, the company decided not to renew Sterger’s contract long before the Favre situation.”

Interestingly enough, the same day in which VERSUS made this announcement, Phil Reese, Sterger's manager has been hinting again at the strong possibility that Sterger may now talk with the NFL regarding the voicemails and explicit photos that she allegedly received from Favre back in 2008.

While this latest declaration by Reese may seem promising for those eager to find out more of the juicy details on this on-going scandal, this isn't the first time that Reese has made such statements. He has continually left the possibility of meeting with the NFL open-ended most likely to keep the attention on Sterger.

Ironically, the show's best chance for any relevance would have been to allow Sterger to address the Favre sexual harassment accusations on-air.  She passed on that chance, which probably was the wise move personally because the show appeared to be on the way out either way.

Many sports fans are now considering this scandal yesterday's news and can’t wait until Ms. Sterger's 15 minutes are up and she can go gently into the night along with the likes of Monica Lewinsky and Ines Sainz and others like them.

There are some women who are just an embarrassment to the women in sports reporting, broadcasting, and writing. A prime example of this embarrassment is Sterger.

If you’re still not familiar wth her background, her fame was derived from wearing scantily-clad clothing at Florida State football games. She then got a Sports Illustrated column, which she was fired from, followed by a TV hosting gig with the New York Jets, and then a co-hosting position on the "The Daily Line".

One would think that whether or not she deserved the above opportunities, Sterger would put in effort to become a decent sports journalist. She writes sports blogs from time to time. Check out one from July entitled “The Year of the No-No” (http://www.versus.com/blogs/jenny-from-the-blogs/the-year-of-the-no-no/), which makes HMW blogs seem like Shakespeare and Pulitzer Prize winners.

In it, she references Stephen Strasburg, spelling it “Steven Strasburg,” in the first paragraph, along with saying, “and, who the hell is this Ubaldo Jiminez kid???… Eh, never heard of him.”

I can’t tell if she’s joking about never having heard of Ubaldo, but she flubbed again when she misspelled “Jimenez”. Showing your readers that you can’t take two seconds to double check a player’s name (two players’ names in this case) is lazy writing.

She then goes on to compare baseball to her dating life, mixing in some truly awful metaphors and references. Here's an example:
“Just the idea of being ‘Pujolsed’ again made me haul ass faster than Willie Mayes.” Mays is misspelled, of course.

She also compares herself to Angelina Jolie and Julia Roberts before ending with, “I’m Jenn effin Sterger.” This is some high praise for a girl who has done nothing notable in her “career” besides appearing in Playboy and Maxim.

Now, perhaps you view the misspellings, grammatical flubs, and narcissistic comments as small indiscretions. However, she also had the audacity to tweet some stuff about Danica Patrick at the ESPY Awards on the same day, in which she insinuated that Patrick would be involved in "bukkake" at GoDaddy.com.

In case you are unfamiliar with "bukkake", the term is from the Japanese and is used in pornographic productions. It refers to scenes featuring a person being ejaculated on by several men. Bukkake is similar to a related term used in pornography, "gokkun", in which several men ejaculate into a container for the receiver to drink. (Please note I got this info from wiki, not from experience).

If she has opinions on Patrick’s appearance at the ESPYs, Sterger can surely voice them. But to degrade Patrick to the point of a humiliating sexual act is outrageous and a disgrace to all reputable women. What’s worse, and probably more likely is Sterger is trying to appeal to men who listen to 1560 KGOW.

If Sterger had any credibility before the Favre incident, she now has negative credibility. Imagine what would happen if a male had made that comment about Danica; he would be fired. Therefore, if women are attempting to be seen in the same light as men in this field, they ought to be subject to the same consequences.

Jenn Sterger is history as far as her sports journalism career is concerned. And Versus can say “au revoir” to future interviews with Danica Patrick.

CRIER’S CORNER

NBA ACTION

Yesterday’s Record ATS: 3-0
Cumulative Season Record ATS: 15-5

Today’s Games (for reading purposes only):

ATLANTA* (-10.5) over DETROIT
The Pistons were one of the worst teams in the league ATS last year and they catch a Hawks team off to a nice start this season and off a clever 12-point win in Cleveland last night. These are squads going in opposite directions. Active big man Al Horford, who had his contract extended recently, is averaging 10 boards a game and will be able to run circles around the Detroit front line and he has some help from the Lakers with new face Josh Powell. Pistons’ Hamilton iffy after sitting out at home vs. Celts last night. ATLANTA, 110-93

*ORLANDO (-18.5) over MINNESOTA
The Texas Triangle used to be the dreaded trip in years past, but now with two power houses in Florida, that state has taken over the mantle. Wolves just had their head handed to them in Miami last night by 32 and it doesn’t get any easier here. For a young team, this is the type of game they could really lose control of early. ORLANDO, 119-94

PHILADELPHIA* (+2) over INDIANA
The 76ers in a good spot conference-wise this year if they can get it together with Cleveland’s likely demise and Jersey in transition. Indiana only won nine games away from home last year, they have been idle since hosting Philly the day before Halloween, but catch a team that lost in OT in Washington last time. Pacers improved in the back court signing Darren Collison, but Philly gets the benefit of the home cooking. PHILADELPHIA, 97-93
