For those of you who are upset with the firing of Matt Jackson and
Adam Wexler from SportsTalk790 (790), the time has come for you to begin questioning your taste and
knowledge of "morning drive" radio.
No matter how big of a Wexler and Jackson honk you are, you may as well come to terms with acknowledging you're in a strict minority in your appreciation for these two guys has morning drive host.
No matter how big of a Wexler and Jackson honk you are, you may as well come to terms with acknowledging you're in a strict minority in your appreciation for these two guys has morning drive host.
Matt Jackson and Adam
Wexler started in 2009 as morning show host on SportsTalk790 and consistently
ranked as one of the bottom two stations in morning drive in the market. You
cant do that and expect to survive in any market. The Big Show according to an article
in Culture Map, has a 1.3 percent market share rating in the latest ratings
book. That type of consistency in ratings will not cut it in any market, as especially one as competitive as the Houston sports talk market.
It has been a belief of
mine for some time that Wexler and Jackson were more suited for nights 6p-10p,
where they worked together on CBS SportsRadio610. It was always my belief that
you can't have a surely persona like Wexler in morning drive. I felt Wexler was better suited in nights where games were happening real time, so he could give real time analysis and read the box scores as he loves to do.
Personally speaking, I do
not view Wexler and Jackson as failures in their endeavor as morning show host.
It's NOT their fault to be honest. They were poorly cast from
the onset by the Sportstalk790 think tank. They were set up to fail, therefore its
really not on them in my view.
Lets be honest, pairing Matt Jackson and
Adam Wexler in morning drive radio, made about as much sense as the Texans playing Matt
Schaub at middle linebacker.
