Josh Innes shtick is criticizing 610

Sunday afternoon, Sports Radio 610 host Alex Del Barrio lost his shit on air.  It was relatively cool show with a variety of topics.  The last topic he covered was the history of the National Anthem in sports.

Alex took a call that went long.  The topic or it's duration caused a texter to lash out at Alex with profanity.

It was at this point, Alex lost his shit.  He blasted the texter but what came next was odd AF.  He addressed Sports Talk 790's Josh Innes going at their station. He never calls Josh out by name but everyone knows Josh is the only in-air personality in Houston who calls Sports Radio 610 Lazy Radio.

I wondered how long would 610 allow Josh to go unanswered.  Honestly, I was shocked it was Alex.  Alex is a little fiery and I've seen him mix it up with people on Twitter but didn't think he would address Josh.

Alex's overall point was, the public discourse in this country is bad.  He do not believe people have to be rude and use profanity towards each other and it sickens him.

It's interesting to point out, how would Alex hear Josh?  He listens to the show?  You can listen to his show but not say his name on air?  One of my biggest pet peeves is referencing another host from another station without saying their name.   I sound like a broken record but we are in 2017, everyone knows everyone exist, its archaic to still go nameless.

Sports Radio 610 Representing Astros Jeff Bagwell in Cooperstown

Radio is just odd.  Today, as I was listening to Sports Radio 610.  Alex Del Barrio and Shaun Bijani were in Cooperstown covering Astros Jeff Bagwell's HOF induction.

Quickly I switched the dial to Sports Talk 790 because surely Astros Flagship station would have some in attendance.  I was wrong.  I flipped back to 610 and enjoyed the various audio Alex and Shaun provided.

They spoke to numerous people affiliated the Astros during Bagwell's tenure.  The audio that stood out most to me was Larry Dierker saying he didn't manage Bagwell he just watched him play.

Sports Talk 790

Maybe it was budget constraints that kept 790 from covering Bagwell's HOF festivities.  As I stated, it's odd because the Astros are the talk of the town nationally and locally and I would expect their Flagship Station to be in attendance.

Who knows, maybe 790 will make an appearance the day of the induction.

Sports Radio 610 has staff deployed in West Virginia and Cooperstown  covering the Texans and Astros.  That's pretty badass.

ND KALU & GREG KOCH ON THE MOVE TO 790? - LM

After Craig's tweet, I reached out to Gavin Spittle for a public comment and he replied as follows


Lamont: Can I get a few thoughts about the departure of ND Kalu and Greg Koch?
Gavin:   I can’t thank them enough for the time that they spent here and hopefully they enjoyed being a part of SportsRadio 610.

 I like to thank Gavin Spittle for always taking the time to reply to questions of concern.  I don't agree with all  of Gavin's decisions but I have to say, he's always responsive.  I really wish he could have done more with Kalu and Koch but like the Texans in Free Agency, when you are good you become more visible thereby become prime for the pickings.

The above was tweeted by Craig Shelton approximately 8:30 AM Friday Morning. HMW was teasing the news all week to build the suspense but decided to drop it.

ND Kalu (former Eagle,Redskin,Texan) and Greg Koch (former Packer) leaving Sports Radio 610 for Sports Talk 790 sort of reminds me of Mario Williams leaving Houston for Buffalo.   I am not a person who talks another man's pockets but I highly doubt ND's and Greg's reason for leaving was based on money.  I believe they bolted (like Mario) for respect and the fact they were never truly given a chance by 610's management. Of course Gavin could tell me he valued the two but to me, if you really valued them, they would still be at 610 with their own show.  I only compare it to Mario Williams because I think the move had something to do with "I will show you".

As far as Sports Radio 610, they have lost two solid sports' minds.  I have been listening to Kalu for almost 3 years and Koch 2 years.  ND Kalu is pretty honest and if he don't know he will say it, Koch is a straight talker mixed in with a little of that legal mumbo jumbo but he holds no punches. People who are not familiar with them will be surprised to know, their range expands beyond football.  I think in addition to football, both guys were also recruited for college basketball and were stars basketball elites in High School.   When it comes to MLB, I think Greg may have to pick up the slack but truth be told, hardly anyone talks baseball in Houston these days.  Although, I am not an MMA guy, I think Kalu's MMA knowledge will fit right in with Dylan Gwinn and Lance Zierlein.

I am happy Sports Talk 790 grabbed ND and Greg, but kind of bummed out if the time is really only an hour a day.  I wrote a while back, who's ever in charge at 790 makes the mistake of one power move and think that's all they need to do, it's times like this, you build on the momentum.  In other words Bryan Erickson (790 Management), don't stop at Koch and Kalu.

Sports Talk 790 is clearly positioning themselves as a "Power House" in actual Sports.   As far as the ratings, I really do not know if Kalu and Koch is enough to "shift the power" but I do know, hard core sports fans like myself will tune in to them.

WHICH LOCAL PERSONALITY THINKS VINCENT JACKSON IS BETTER THAN ANDRE JOHNSON?

Tuesday morning I was cruising the streets while listening to the Big Show. At some point during the second hour of the show, I heard a comment come out of Matt Jackson’s that almost made me run off the road and fall to my death in Galveston Bay.  As a Houstonian and avid sports fan, there are certain names you can’t approach with sloppy commentary:  Hakeem, Earl, Nolan, Moon, Childress, and Andre Johnson.  I am not even a huge baseball guy but I know the value of Nolan Ryan partly because my stepdad slapped the taste out my mouth because I said Nolan was not that good. 

The Big Show (790) was talking about Free Agent Wide Receivers and it was normal dialogue between the guys.  Adam Wexler was pretty much running point guard when he mentioned Vincent Jackson.  They begin talking about Vincent in terms of  free agency. It appeared, Lance and Adam were locked on Andre Johnson but Matt Jackson said he would take Vincent over Andre.  Matt Jackson is the local version of ESPN's Skip Bayless.  My blog does very little to what transpired on Tuesday.  It's a must hear for yourself.

Matt Jackson started throwing Vincent Jackson stats while elaborating on Andre Johnson’s injuries.  Sometimes Monty Mont is known to take people words literally which makes them whine about being taken out of context therefore I want you good folk to hear it for yourself.

Now that we got that out of the way, Matt Jackson’s argument is flawed.

• Vincent Jackson also had nagging injurie
•  In terms of career, Johnson (4) Years of David Carr
•  Jackson (4) years of Phillip Rivers
• Ask any creditable football mind who are the top 3 receivers, Vincent Jackson is not one of them
•  Andre never truly had a decoy on the opposite side
• Put a healthy Andre and Vincent on the Free Agency Market, who get picked up first at the most money

If Matt Jackson is going to go all stats/production of saying Vincent is better than Andre then by the transitive property Calvin Johnson, Wes Welker, Victor Cruz, Larry Fitzgerald', Steve Smith, Roddy White, Jordy Nelson, Brandon Marshall, Mike Wallace, Hakeem Nicks, Dwayne Bowe,Marques Colston are also better than Andre Johnson.  The names mention above are all guys above Vincent Jackson.

Matt is no slow slouch though, more than likely he will say I am talking about Vincent Jackson vs Andre Johnson.  I cannot discount what my eyes have witnessed for nine years.  No one on this God green planet will convince me Vincent Jackson is better than Andre Johnson, that's insane.  Matt's comment to me was similar to Mike Lombardi calling Texans' soft.  Sure you can argue your point but you are talking to deaf ears and everything you say beyond that is not heard.

WRAP IT UP

As the show progressed and the backlashed received, it seems as if Matt Jackson qualified his argument but not to the point of going back on his original statement, he owned it.  Twitter counterpart Frobeus said it best, Matt's comment was Dylan Gwinn caliber.  In my opinion, this further proves my point of Matt trying to disagree so damn much at times it puts him on the unpopular side of the fence.  Notice I didn't said wrong because all of this is subjective and yes I have a bias towards Andre Johnson but so does 99.9% of football enthusiast.

If Rick Smith were to cut Andre Johnson and acquire Vincent Jackson, he would have to escape Houston by night at the Sugarland  Airport.

As far as Lance and Adama I can thoroughly understand them not having anything to do with that conversation.  In all fairness, Lance tried to defend Matt but it's not happening this way.  Larry, Calvin Johnson are arguable not no freaking Vincent Jackson however he would make a cold ass number 2.
